Using the 5th gen's stock tweeters?

Post by jumpncrash »

Hey guys, hope you're doing well.

I have a 2001 and I have had a couple sets of speakers in it but I feel they have never been correctly set up. To give a bit of background I got it without any speakers at all and threw some MTX 6.5" coax speakers in it hooked up with the stock tweeters in parallel to an amp. One of the speakers died (again, the stupid surrounds dried up) so I had to get some new speakers. I ordered some DB Drive 5 1/4s on Crutchfield and installed them but this time directly to my aftermarket head unit without wiring in the stock tweeters because I'm worried about the 2 Ohm load it would put on the head unit.

The speakers sound all right but I think it would probably sound better if I could get a midrange speaker like they had from the factory and use the stock tweeter....enter the Skar Audio FSX65 https://www.skaraudio.com/products/fsx6 ... ge-speaker.

I would like to use this midrange in conjunction with the stock tweeter, but again I find myself faced with the issue of having a 2 Ohm load if wired in parallel.

So has anybody successfully used the stock tweeter with an aftermarket setup, is it worth it? How were you set up? Should I abandon my quest to use the stock tweeter? Is it any good in the first place?

Lemme know guys.

Thanks

Just to make sure we're on the right page. The stock tweeter is placed in the door handle trim. Are you trying to wire the tweeters on the speakers to your stock wiring? Just a little bit confused as to what exactly you're trying to tackle.

Most individuals only change their front/rear speakers. They don't touch the stock tweeters. So to answer your question, a set of aftermarket front speakers will work fine with stock tweeters.

My issue is that using stock tweeters with an aftermarket Coax isn't correct, you end up having a 2 Ohm load on the head unit which it is not designed to do, this theoretically lowers sound quality, is it noticeable?...maybe not), and two tweeters where you should just have one which almost certainly affects sound staging.

I want to know if anybody has done any back to back testing, or has any input on using the stock tweeter with a midrange speaker instead of a coaxial, and possibly what make/model of speakers were used.
